1. How do I become a member? Register online or come to meetings and provide us with your name and email address. Click here to be a member.
2. May I come to DAG meetings without being member? Yes, meetings are open to anyone as long as they observe the ground rules.
3. What are the ground rules? DAG is an open forum in which people are encouraged to express their views. Therefore, all information at DAG is 'off-the-record'.
4. Are members of the media allowed to attend DAG? Yes, members of the press and electronic media are encouraged to attend, but must follow our 'off-the-record' policy. If imminent newspieces are being prepared on topics discussed at DAG, reporters are asked to make that known to the group.
5. How is policy set at DAG? Typically, issues are introduced by a member, then followed by discussion. When there is a very clear consensus of the membership present to take a position, a member will be asked to formulate that position in writing for review. Complicated issues on which there is no clear consensus, or those that require further research, will be directed to a task force of volunteers interested in pursuing that issue. Final policy will be determined by the Steering Committee after discussion and consideration.
6. Who is the Steering Committee? The Steering Committee is a group of individuals who have been the most active DAG members as measured by the time and intellect they have contributed to the group. Membership in the Steering Committee is by invitation of the leadership.
7. Does DAG coordinate its advocacy positions with other groups? DAG reserves the right to take or not take a position on any issue brought before it by other design watchdog groups. When advocacy positions are best represented by one of those other groups, DAG will frequently defer to it or, where appropriate, take a public position in support of that group's efforts.
8. Are there written rules by which DAG operates? Not at this time. The strength of DAG is in its flexibility to respond to or take leadership on issues as the membership sees fit.
9. When and where does DAG meet? DAG meets on the first Thursday of every month at 8AM at
the Center for Architecture,
1218 Arch Street.
10. Who is the DAG leadership? Joanne Aitken is the Chair,
George L. Claflen and David Brownlee are the Vice-Chairs. Names of the Steering Committee can be found on this website under Membership and Steering Committee.
